Move default collections in ConfigMgr 2007

When installing ConfigMgr 2007, there are many default collections in the console. Most collections will be never used actually. Only the "All Systems" is handy for recognizing all devices. Best thing is to move the default collections to a new collection. How this works I will explain in this blog.

In ConfigMgr 2007 there are 17 default collections after installation. In ConfigMgr 2012 there will be default 2 User collections and 5 Device collections. Much better that way!< [...]

Query ConfigMgr collections with Active Directory

When I'm implementing ConfigMgr 2007 at customers, default collections are almost not used. Only the "All Systems" is handy for recognizing devices. Mostly I create collections for existing or new Active Directory OU's. (for example: Desktops, Laptops, VDI). When devices are placed in this OU's you can browse for this. Use "Active Directory System Group Discovery" for that, and the query can be created.

<img style="display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; marg [...]

Script bits (update 4)

This post is a quick gathering of a few small scripts I wrote with my IT-life's motto: "Never do anything twice"

None of them are very special but each of them is a result of a short moment of frustration and a few minutes of gvim typing (yes, I use 'vi' on windows too).

so far this article contains:

Add wallpapers from a lot of subdirs to a Windows 7 Theme Change everybody's manager in Active Directory Execute one command on all you [...]

User pictures from the Active Directory

Not many people are aware that the Microsoft Active Directory has properties for pictures. This means that it's possible to add mugshots from people to your AD.

I created a small application that lets you edit these pictures. That means you don't need a seperate fileserver directory or database to store this kind of information. I also added birthday and first working day to the schema of the AD (somehow date properties aren't available in AD??). This makes this a coo [...]
