With ConfigMgr 2007 and 2012 there is OS Deployment possible with the use of Task Sequences. When advertise/deploy a Task Sequence used for OS Deployment, there is the choice for Lite Touch or Zero Touch Installation. In this blog I willl explain the difference between them, and what to do for having Lite Touch and/or Zero Touch functionality.
In ConfigMgr 2007 R2 there can be created Task Sequence Media. This is extremely useful when PXE boot is not available, or not allowed, and an image must be deployed. Default there will be jobs for Stand-alone media (used for offline devices), Bootable media (used for deployment) & Capture media (used for capture a reference machine). With ConfigMgr R3 there is even more functionality available in the Task Sequence Media wizard. Then there will be a job added for Prestaged Media (used for re-deployment).

When installing Configuration Manager 2007 with the Release 3 (R3) update, there must be a Client Hotfix installed first. This hotfix (KB977384) will create a package and program for you, which is handy for updating existing clients. Download location: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977384
